SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - The biochemistry program at Shepherd University earned a full seven-year reaccreditation by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB).
The accreditation means students enrolled in the biochemistry program at Shepherd are eligible to sit for the 2025 ASBMB exam offered in April.
Taking the exam provides students with a competitive edge in the professional world and job market.
Dr. Bob Warburton, professor of biochemistry and dean of Shepherd's College of Science Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Nursing, said the reaccreditation marks a significant achievement.
"ASBMB accreditation demonstrates the excellence of our biochemistry program at Shepherd," Warburton said. "It highlights our strong curriculum, the dedication of our faculty, and the standards we hold our students to in the program."
ASBMB accreditation is a national, independent, outcomes-based evaluation recognizing B.S. or B.A. degree programs in biochemistry, molecular biology, and related fields.
Shepherd is one of two West Virginian institutions that are accredited by the ASBMB.
There are 110 institutions accredited in the United States.
Shepherd first received ASBMB accreditation in 2017 for a full seven-year period.
