2026 Winter Olympics: Federal Councillor Cassis travels to Milan

Press releases, 11.02.2026

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), will travel to Milan on 11 and 12 February 2026 on the occasion of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. There, he will hold talks with regional and city authorities.

In Milan, the Federal Councillor will meet with the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, and the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala. Discussions will focus on bilateral relations between Switzerland and Italy - in particular with Lombardy - cross-border cooperation, the opportunities offered by the 2026 Winter Olympics for the region, and the tragedy in Crans-Montana.

The Federal Councillor will also visit the House of Switzerland in Milan, a platform for promoting Switzerland at major international events. He will take advantage of his stay in the Lombard capital to meet with representatives of the Swiss Olympic family.
