The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has partnered with the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) to extend a rideshare zone pilot program into its second phase through December 28, 2025.
Thousands of patrons will attend TPAC performances during the pilot, and NDOT will utilize locations that typically serve as metered parking spaces as two designated rideshare and taxi pick-up and drop-off zones. After establishing these zones during the pilot's first phase in January and February of 2025, NDOT noticed a more enhanced and safer rideshare experience that improved event-related congestion.
For the second phase of the pilot, the rideshare zones will be slightly shifted to monitor their efficiency and usage. These spaces will be clearly marked and monitored by NDOT Code Enforcement to provide clear, safe, pull-in passenger loading areas that keep traffic moving in the area during patron arrival and departure times.
The goals of this pilot are to create a more organized and efficient transportation system for TPAC events and also provide meaningful data to assist NDOT in developing a rideshare zone framework guide that can be used to stage other pick-up and drop-off zones throughout downtown as part of the Connect Downtown Action Plan.
The Connect Downtown Action Plan, approved by Metro Council in April 2024, calls for a variety of strategies to address congestion in Nashville's downtown core, including promoting safe, curb-side passenger loading. The rideshare zone pilot program will assist NDOT in developing a rideshare zone framework guide that can be used to stage other pick-up and drop-off zones throughout downtown, as recommended by the Connect Downtown Action Plan.
