The University of Wyoming's Veterans Services Center (VSC) is officially open and welcoming new, returning and transfer students for the current academic year. Located on the third floor of the Wyoming Union, the center serves as a "one-stop shop" designed to support the unique needs of the university's military-connected community.
The VSC is debuting a refreshed mission centered on fostering a professional community for service members, veterans and military-affiliated students. This mission focuses on providing timely and relevant support that advances academic achievement, workforce readiness and successful transitions to civilian life while contributing to the overall success of UW.
"The Marna M. Kuehne Foundation Veterans Services Center at the University of Wyoming fosters a professional community for service members, veterans and military-affiliated students through timely and relevant support that advances academic achievement, workforce readiness and successful civilian transitions while contributing to the success of the University of Wyoming," the VSC's new mission statement reads.
The VSC staff is on-site and available to introduce students to the many amenities the center offers. Whether students have questions regarding VA benefits, financial aid or campus resources, the VSC is dedicated to ensuring student success.
The center provides a variety of professional and social resources to help students balance academics with military life, including a dedicated student computer lab with covered printing costs and access to peer tutors for subjects such as math, chemistry, biology and English. Specialized transition programs, such as VA Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership, offer on-campus clinical care and mental health coordination, while Military2VA Case Management helps veterans navigate the move from the Department of Defense to VA health care.
Beyond academic and clinical support, the center offers vital financial guidance, assisting students with GI Bill certification, scholarship applications, and navigating the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, and tuition assistance. The facility provides a welcoming environment where students can attend scheduled events but also drop in for questions, relaxation and social connections.
By offering a combination of advocacy, resources and community-building, the VSC ensures that military-affiliated students have the tools necessary to thrive in a university environment.
The VSC is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and is closed on weekends and holidays.
