On December 23, 2024, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong met with outgoing Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai.
Sun Weidong spoke positively of Pham Sao Mai's contributions to the development of China-Viet Nam relations during his tenure as Ambassador to China. Sun Weidong said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of the two parties and the two countries, China-Viet Nam relations have entered a new era of building a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Vietnamese side to take the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Viet Nam and the People-to-People Exchange Year next year as an opportunity to maintain high-level strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, strengthen multilateral coordination and cooperation, consolidate the foundation of popular support, and push for in-depth and solid progress in the building of a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future as per the six overall goals of "greater political mutual trust, more solid security cooperation, deeper mutually beneficial cooperation, stronger popular support, closer multilateral coordination and better handling of differences", so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples. Sun Weidong expressed the hope that Pham Sao Mai will continue to care about and support the development of China-Viet Nam relations after leaving office and returning to his country.
Pham Sao Mai expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Chinese side for giving support for his performance of duties in China. He said that currently, Viet Nam and China have maintained close high-level exchanges and yielded fruitful results in mutually beneficial cooperation, and the bilateral relationship is at its best in history. Viet Nam attaches great importance to developing relations with China and is willing to deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation with China and jointly push forward the building of a Viet Nam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance. Viet Nam remains firmly committed to the one-China policy and supports China's position on the Taiwan question and issues related to Xizang and Xinjiang. Viet Nam is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in international and regional affairs, practice multilateralism, promote economic globalization, and safeguard international fairness and justice.
