NCUA Releases Q2 Credit Union System Performance Data

The NCUA has released its second quarter credit union system performance data for 2026.

Highlights include:

  • Total assets in federally insured credit unions rose by $120 billion, or 5.0 percent, over the year ending in the second quarter of 2026[CR2.1], to $2.50 trillion.
  • Total loans outstanding increased $82 billion, or 4.9 percent, over the year, to $1.76 trillion. The average outstanding loan balance in the second quarter of 2026 was $19,906, up $978, or 5.2 percent, from one year earlier.
  • The delinquency rate at federally insured credit unions was 96 basis points in the second quarter of 2026, up 6 basis points from one year earlier. The net charge-off ratio was 78 basis points, little changed compared with the second quarter of 2025.
  • Insured shares and deposits rose $80 billion, or 4.3 percent, over the year ending in the second quarter of 2026, to $1.91 trillion.
  • The loan to share ratio stood at 82.9 percent in the second quarter of 2026, down from 83.1 percent in the second quarter of 2025.
