53,000 SF Addition and Comprehensive Renovations Create Modern Learning Spaces for Elgin School District U-46 Students and the Community

ELGIN, IL. - Sept 21, 2026 - Gilbane Building, a leading builder in K-12 construction, joined Elgin School District U-46 leaders, teachers, students, and community members to celebrate the ribbon cutting completion of a $65 million addition and renovation project at Kimball Middle School in Elgin, Illinois.

The project added 53,000 SF of new space and delivered comprehensive improvements throughout the existing school. The investment reflects Elgin School District U-46's commitment to creating modern, engaging learning environments that support students and strengthen educational opportunities. The district serves more than 35,000 students across 55 schools.

The addition introduced new classrooms, science labs, and collaborative learning spaces that support evolving teaching and learning needs. Renovations modernized existing classrooms and upgraded mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the school.

Improvements across the site also strengthened the campus experience for students, staff, and the community. Expanded parking and improved traffic flow support safer, easier access to the school. New landscaping and outdoor learning spaces give students and staff more places to learn, connect, and gather.

Designed by DLA Architects and built by Gilbane as construction manager, the project prioritized energy-efficient systems and materials to create an environmentally responsible campus for generations of Kimball Middle School students and staff.
