WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm Colin McDonald to be Assistant Attorney General for the National Fraud Enforcement Division:
"After gutting key divisions that actually investigate and prosecute fraud, the Trump Administration announced this newly-created vessel for targeting political enemies under the guise of 'fraud enforcement.'
"I never received answers to questions about this Division's formation, and I believe Mr. McDonald is more committed to scoring political points for President Trump and the enriched fraudsters he has pardoned than he is to actually fighting fraud.
"If the Trump Administration were serious about tackling fraud, it'd start from within the White House. I vote no."
