NASHVILLE - The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Tennessee announced charges as part of nationwide enforcement actions led by the Justice Department's National Fraud Enforcement Division, Internal Revenue Service, and Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation targeting tax fraud and related offenses. The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Tennessee was a key participant in this surge effort.
Between early September and today, federal prosecutors across the country facilitated fraud enforcement actions spanning over 76 criminal defendants reaching more than $490,000,000 in intended loss to American taxpayers.
According to court records, Thomas William Jones, 59 years old, of Brentwood, Tennessee, pleaded guilty last month to one count of failing to collect and pay taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), announced United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee Braden H. Boucek.
Jones was the owner and operator of Alternative Solutions Consulting Corporation ("ASCC"), a software consulting company in Franklin, Tennessee, where he employed others and maintained the ASCC's finances. Jones controlled ASCC's bank account and paid his employees from this account. As an employer, Jones had a duty to truthfully account for and pay the required federal income and employment taxes.
Between 2014 and 2023, Jones failed to file the appropriate forms with the IRS for ASCC to report his employees' wages. Jones also did not make payments to the IRS for federal income and Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax withholdings which were required to be taken from his employees' paychecks. In addition, Jones did not make payments to the IRS for the matching portion of the FICA taxes (i.e., the employer contributions to Social Security and Medicare) that he was required to make. The total amount of taxes Jones failed to collect and pay is not more than $1,975,964.24.
Jones was charged by an Information on July 7, 2026. He pled guilty on September 1, 2026. He faces up to five years in federal prison. U.S. District Court Judge Eli J. Richardson scheduled Jones's sentencing for January 15, 2027.

Vance to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse within Federal benefit programs.
The IRS and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI) investigated the case. Criminal Chief Ahmed A. Safeeullah is prosecuting the case.
