ACC Commends EPA Commitment to Phase Out Animal Testing

WASHINGTON (Jan. 22, 2026) The American Chemistry Council (ACC) commends EPA's commitment to phase out animal testing and ongoing efforts to advance modern, science-based approaches for chemical safety assessment.

ACC has long championed the development and adoption of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) - innovative, non-animal scientific tools that can help improve the speed, relevance, and transparency of chemical evaluations. Through the Long-Range Research Initiative (LRI), ACC invests in research that strengthens the scientific foundation of NAMs, including work to improve exposure science, advance in vitro and in silico methods, and support integrated approaches to testing and assessment.

ACC also emphasizes that NAMs must be scientifically validated, transparent, and fit for purpose to help ensure they provide reliable information for regulatory decision making. ACC's LRI program supports research that helps establish the performance, relevance, and limitations of NAMs so they can be used with confidence by regulators, industry, and the broader scientific community.

As EPA moves forward, ACC remains committed to working with the Agency and the broader scientific community to expand the use of credible NAMs that enhance chemical safety evaluations while reducing reliance on animal testing.
