ROCHESTER, MN - Today, Congressman Brad Finstad (MN-01) announced that he has secured $2 million in funding for transportation infrastructure projects in Olmsted County to be used for the construction of interchanges at County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 3 and U.S. Highway 14, and County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 5 and U.S. Highway 14. This federal funding was awarded as a part of H.R. 7148, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, which included a Community Project Funding request submitted by Congressman Finstad. Senators Klobuchar and Smith both voted against the legislation.
This project will improve safety along U.S. Highway 14 in Byron by replacing several high-risk, ground-level intersections and a railroad crossing with safer interchanges. Currently, Highway 14 intersects with CSAH 3, 10th Avenue, and CSAH 5 at traffic signals and crosses railroad tracks at grade, which increases the risk of crashes and congestion. This federal funding will support the environmental review and design of two new interchanges, allowing traffic to flow more safely and efficiently on this important regional highway.
"I am proud to have secured federal funding for this important project in Olmsted County," said Rep. Finstad. "In southern Minnesota, Highway 14 serves as one of the primary routes that connects us to family, friends, work, and school. This federal investment will help lay the groundwork for the beginning stages of two proposed interchanges, which will result in safer, more efficient travel along Highway 14 in Olmsted County."
