Sens. Ossoff, Rev. Warnock Delivering Resources to Help Create John Lewis Memorial Park

Atlanta, Ga. - U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock are delivering resources to help establish a new John Lewis Memorial Park in downtown Atlanta.

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock brought Republicans and Democrats together to support the ongoing Historic Butler Street YMCA Redevelopment project, which includes creating a new park around the John Lewis mural at the corner of Auburn Avenue and Jesse Hill Jr. Drive.

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock are delivering $2,000,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on February 3.

"Congressman Lewis spent his life working towards the advancement of Atlanta, the State of Georgia, and the Nation through his life-long commitment to civil rights," Sen. Ossoff said. "Senator Reverend Warnock and I brought Republicans and Democrats together to support the development of this park in his honor."

"Congressman Lewis was one of Georgia's greatest sons, and as his pastor and my mentor, I always knew he had a deep love for the city of Atlanta," said Senator Warnock. "There are few figures in our state's history more deserving of this honor, and I am proud to have worked alongside Senator Ossoff and our state leaders to get this done."

"This federal investment in the John Lewis Memorial Park is a deeply meaningful affirmation of our community's history, strength, and promise. We are profoundly honored to carry forward Congressman John Lewis's extraordinary legacy by creating a sacred space where people can gather, reflect, and be inspired by his lifelong call for justice, unity, and hope. This park will stand as a lasting symbol of connection and possibility for generations to come," said Alfonza X. Marshall, Chair of the Butler Street Community Development Corporation Board of Directors.
