Governor Polis Highlights Colorado Students, Educators and Mentors on the Western Slope

EAGLE COUNTY/WESTERN SLOPE - Today, Governor Polis visited communities in Eagle and Garfield Counties on the Western Slope. Governor Polis started the day with a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at FirstBank Fiestas, where he met with Coloradans attending the festivities.

"Hispanic Heritage Month is a wonderful time to celebrate the incredible contributions of Hispanic Coloradans to our state's rich history, as well as our bright future. I was happy to be in Avon to celebrate today," said Governor Jared Polis.

Governor Polis then visited with students and educators in Eagle County at Gypsum Creek Middle School. The Middle School is also located near the future home of a new Pre-school facility and employee housing complex servicing the county.

"It is always a pleasure to get out on the road and meet some of our extraordinary students and educators here in Colorado, who are exceeding expectations and showing why Colorado is the best place to get an education. Our students are our future, and we are always focused on ensuring all Colorado students have the resources needed to succeed in the classroom and beyond. It's great to see this investment in the students and staff, as well as the community," said Governor Polis.

Governor Polis then toured Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs, meeting with Political Science students in the Red, White, and Blue Club, a student-led club that promotes civic engagement and voter registration on campus. "I am inspired by young leaders who are making their voices heard, and encouraging classmates to get involved in our communities and government at all levels. Colorado is proud to be the gold standard for voting access and security, and I appreciate these students' commitment to our democracy," said Governor Polis.

Governor Polis will also meet with youth mentors at the Stepping Up for Youth Fundraiser, an annual fundraiser hosted by Stepping Stones of the Roaring Fork Valley. Stepping Stones offers free, bilingual tutoring, mentorship, outdoor activities, mental health counseling and crisis support to around 400 young people in Aspen and Parachute.

"Stepping Stones is a great resource for Coloradans on the Western Slope to receive the extra support and resources needed to thrive. Encouraging young Coloradans to pursue careers in social work, psychology and build meaningful relationships within the community," said Governor Polis.
