Rep. Akbar Ali Receives Committee Assignments for the Remainder of the 2025-2026 Legislative Term

ATLANTA - House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) recently appointed State Representative Akbar Ali (D-Lawrenceville) to serve on the House Creative Arts and Entertainment, Economic Development and Tourism and Urban Affairs committees for the remainder of the 2025-2026 legislative term.

"I want to thank Speaker Burns for appointing me to serve on these impactful committees for the remainder of the 2026 legislative term," said Rep. Ali. "These committees play a vital role in supporting Georgia's entertainment industries, strengthening economic development and tourism and addressing the complex challenges facing our metropolitan communities. I'm honored to take on this responsibility and look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to deliver meaningful results for the people of Georgia."

Rep. Ali was sworn in on Thursday, December 18, 2025, following a special election to fill the seat of former State Representative Shelly Hutchinson (D-Snellville).

Representative Akbar Ali represents the citizens of District 106, which includes a portion of Gwinnett County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2025 and currently serves on the Creative Arts and Entertainment, Economic Development and Tourism and Urban Affairs committees.
