The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union held an insightful webinar titled "Data Visualization: New Perspective to the Matter" on 7 October 2025, featuring Ajay Mohan, an IPCC-accredited Climate and Data Journalist. Moderated by Aswandi Amin, the session brought together 52 participants from across the Asia-Pacific to explore how visual elements can enhance storytelling through clarity, emotion, and design.
Ajay demonstrated practical techniques using free, browser-based tools such as Flourish and Datawrapper, guiding participants on how to clean datasets, choose the right chart types, and design visuals that capture audience attention. "What matters is how you want your audience to feel when they see the information," he emphasised, reminding participants that visualisation is not decoration but interpretation.
The discussion also covered inclusivity, accessibility, and the psychology of visuals, underlining how strong design principles can foster trust and understanding. The session reflected ABU's ongoing commitment to equipping media professionals with practical, future-ready skills that turn complex data into engaging visual stories across digital platforms.
