Shriners Children’s Lexington Chief of Staff Named Board Member of Orthopedic Society

Vishwas R. Talwalkar, M.D., chief of staff, Shriners Children's Lexington, and Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics, University of Kentucky Healthcare, has been elected to the position of director-elect of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS).

The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Inc. was founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, independent organization to serve the best interests of the public and the medical profession. These interests are achieved through the ABOS by establishing standards for the education of orthopedic surgeons. These standards are evaluated by the ABOS through examinations and practice evaluations.

"It's a great honor and responsibility to serve on the board of directors for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery," Talwalkar said. "The ABOS celebrates its 90th birthday this year. It is an independent organization that works with other groups to guide the education and certification of orthopedic surgeons throughout their careers. It serves a vital role in our society to protect the public and promote the safe, competent and ethical practice of orthopedic surgery. I am very grateful for this amazing opportunity."
