HOUSTON, May 19, 2026- Axiom Space's University Alliance expands welcoming 26 institutions from four continents and 12 nations including Australia, India, Italy, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uzbekistan. This global community of researchers, engineers and students is quickly expanding to become a leading international network dedicated to advancing microgravity research, technology development, and commercial innovation in low-Earth orbit (LEO).
"Through the University Alliance, Axiom Space is uniting the international research community driven to enable human progress," said Dr. Lucie Low, Axiom Space Chief Science Officer. "Together, Alliance members are taking the initiative to ensure microgravity research benefits everyone on Earth and our shared goals fulfill a scientific purpose to advance civilization."
From welcoming the first Alliance member in Asia, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), to the recent addition of Türkiye's Middle East Technical University (METU), the group continues to build a diverse team of advocates for microgravity research. Current Axiom Space University Alliance institutions include:
Through the University Alliance, Axiom Space is leveraging its commitment to supporting scientific research and its proven experience and capabilities working with institutions around the world to fly hundreds of payloads to the International Space Station, uniting the research community to strategically leverage LEO. The University Alliance is focused on supporting and advancing space science during the transition from government-led to commercially-owned and operated space stations. Within the Alliance, institutions contribute to the research community by identifying future research priorities, participating in international collaborative scientific initiatives, and strengthening national strategic positioning in emerging commercial orbital research activities.
Axiom Space is fostering collaboration by engaging Alliance members to advocate on behalf of the international research community. The Alliance will establish working groups to discuss the current status, opportunities, and challenges of a variety of research areas and develop recommendations for ongoing support. Their findings will inform strategic recommendations for policy makers, funding agencies, industry, and others as the Alliance's work progresses. This collaborative work is essential to advocate for microgravity research and technology development as well as R&D toward commercial opportunities.
Through this global effort, Axiom Space is uniting the research community to ensure innovative science initiatives are inclusive and collaborative for the global space ecosystem.
