Nations Support Panamanian Rule of Law

Media Note

Office of the Spokesperson

January 31, 2026

The undersigned nations take note of Panama's Supreme Court decision to declare CK Hutchison's concession of the Balboa and Cristobal ports unconstitutional. We respect the ruling as residing squarely within the purview of Panama's independent judicial system, which upholds the rule of law and demonstrates Panama's status as a mature democracy.

The Court's decision underscores Panama's commitment to providing a level playing field for all investors, domestic and international. We support the impartial application of the law as the best way to attract world-class investments that drive innovation, create quality jobs, and promote peace and prosperity.

By confronting corruption and enforcing accountability, Panama's Supreme Court has reinforced investor confidence and protected honest businesses. Today's ruling reaffirms Panama is a nation of laws, and its future belongs to the Panamanian people.
