Congressman Moulton Cosponsors Momnibus Act to Address Maternal Mortality Crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) is joining as a cosponsor of H.R. 7973, the Momnibus Act, a comprehensive package of 14 individual bills designed to make historic investments that address the ongoing maternal health crisis in the United States. The legislation is led by Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14).

The Momnibus Act addresses the full spectrum of the issues that drive maternal mortality, morbidity, and persistent racial and socioeconomic disparities in the United States through targeted, evidence-based policy investments. The bill has 194 House cosponsors and 32 Senate cosponsors.

The United States has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among high-income nations. This falls disproportionately on Black women and women in underserved communities.

The Momnibus Act's 14 individual bills address maternal health through several key pillars:

  • Tackling the social determinants of health that contribute to poor maternal outcomes, including housing, nutrition, and economic security.
  • Growing and diversifying the perinatal workforce to ensure all mothers have access to culturally competent, high-quality care.
  • Supporting community-based organizations that serve pregnant and postpartum individuals, particularly in underserved areas.
  • Expanding access to maternal mental health care, including screening, treatment, and peer support programs.
  • Improving data collection and research infrastructure to better understand and address disparities in maternal health outcomes.
