Merck Animal Health grants $439,040 to AVMF for scholarship programs supporting veterinary, veterinary technician students

(SCHAUMBURG, Illinois) June 3, 2026-The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) announced continued annual scholarship support from Merck Animal Health, now providing $439,040 in funding for veterinary students and veterinary technician students pursuing careers critical to animal health, public health, and food security.

In 2026, the grants will award $291,200 in scholarship funds to 26 veterinary students and $147,840 in scholarship funds to 66 veterinary technician students nationwide.

Merck Animal Health's partnership with AVMF since 2018 has provided scholarships to hundreds of aspiring veterinary professionals, many of whom have gone on to become young leaders in the veterinary field.

Awards recognize veterinary students in good academic standing who have been nominated by faculty for innovation, entrepreneurship, and forward-thinking projects that inspire the profession, while addressing the financial challenges students face and strengthening the veterinary workforce for the future.

"Veterinary medicine plays a critical role in advancing One Health, supporting resilient food systems, and strengthening communities, yet the financial burden of education continues to be a significant challenge for many aspiring professionals," said Dr. Meg Conlon, executive director, U.S. Companion Animal & Equine Professional Services, Merck Animal Health. "Through our ongoing partnership with the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, we are proud to invest in the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary technicians. By helping reduce financial barriers, we aim to ensure that passionate, talented students have the opportunity not only to pursue careers in animal health, but to thrive and lead in the profession."

Scholarship grants help offset student debt and broaden access to training for students from all backgrounds, allowing AVMF and Merck Animal Health to address workforce needs by supporting students earlier in their careers and removing financial barriers that might otherwise limit career choices or discourage entry into the profession.

"Merck Animal Health's continued commitment to students and the veterinary profession makes a real difference," said Danielle Johnson, executive director of the AVMF. "These scholarships help remove financial barriers and open doors for the next generation of veterinary leaders."
