Volunteer Recycling Ambassadors make a difference

Volunteer Recycling Ambassadors are instrumental in educating residents about what is (and is not) recyclable in Columbia.

Recycling is complex, local and ever-changing, even more so as the community recovers from the April 2025 tornado that destroyed the City's Material Recovery Facility. Communities whose residents understand the complexities of recycling are better prepared to adjust to changes.

The City encourages residents to join the team of volunteers who are helping Columbia succeed with its recycling programs.

Recycling Ambassadors engage with others at community events, fairs and schools on the latest in recycling, waste reduction and composting.

The City will hold a Recycling Ambassadors Volunteer Training 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24 at the City of Columbia Training Center, 500 E. Walnut St., Suite 108.
