Leader Schumer Statement On Trump’s Illegal Executive Orders Attacking Birthright Citizenship

Washington, D.C. - Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement on the two executive orders Donald Trump signed that directly attack birthright citizenship. This comes after Supreme Court earlier this summer affirmed the constitutionality of birthright citizenship:

"Trump's continued crusade to end birthright citizenship is blatantly illegal.

"If you are born in America, you are American - period. The Constitution says it and the Supreme Court has affirmed it.

"Trump has just set himself up for yet another loss in the courts. Democrats will challenge this order, and we will win.

"The grand American tradition of welcoming newcomers to America is a cornerstone of our nation - that's not changing, no matter how hard Trump might try."
