USM PENANG, 10 February 2026 - The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Pusat Islam (Islamic Centre) recently held a programme to welcome the beginning of Ramadan, the Islamic Holy Month with the theme, 'Jom Kongsi Rezeki' (Let's Share the Blessings).
The 'Gempur Ramadan 2026' programme (Ramadan Loving Campus) aims to share the blessings of Ramadan by instilling a sense of togetherness and a culture of giving among the campus community.
The main activity of the programme, which was held in the afternoon, was the handing out of free 'bubur lambuk' (savoury rice porridge/congee) to the campus community, with five locations serving as main areas of handing out, namely the Foyer of the Chancellory Building, Dataran Bintang, the Security Department, Pusat Sejahtera (Health Centre), and the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
200 packs of 'bubur lambuk' were placed at all the locations to be picked up by the university community.
According to the Director of Pusat Islam, Ustaz Zayd Zhari, this programme is not only about continuing a waited yearly tradition, but also helps to strengthen the spirit of togetherness and social mindfulness among the campus community.
"Ramadan is a month to spread love and care, and by handing out 'bubur lambuk' we could celebrate the spirit of sharing our blessings and for the 'silaturrahim' among everyone to be closer together," he said.
The USM Pusat Islam extends its gratitude to those whom had given support in making the programme a success, and hopes that such a programme could be continued in the future.
