DLA Director outlines strategy, tours DLA Distribution San Diego

Simerly began his visit with a tour of the distribution center's primary warehouses. Navy Capt. Phoebe Tamayo, commander, DLA Distribution San Diego, California, highlighted standard distribution operations including receipt, storage, shipping and issuing.

"We provide a comprehensive range of distribution services, ensuring vital supplies reach our forces efficiently and effectively," Tamayo said.

Tamayo also showcased additional capabilities including transshipment, preservation, packaging, packing and marking. She highlighted the Level 1 Sub-Save Program, the Emergency Support Operations Center, Care of Supply in Storage procedures and Material Processing Center services.

"Whether it's supporting afloat units or land-based commands in the San Diego area through our Material Processing Center, we provide a complete spectrum of distribution services, ensuring our forces have what they need, when they need it," Tamayo said.

Simerly and the DLA Distribution San Diego, California, team traveled to Naval Air Station North Island to tour five key facilities. At these locations, DLA Distribution San Diego, California, supports both sea and land-based customers with services including inbound and outbound small parcel transportation, preservation, packaging, packing and marking, Foreign Military Sales, carrier material processing, indoor staging, mapping, F-35 material processing, Fleet Readiness Center Southwest retail inventory control, Care of Supply in Storage, retail receiving, packing, local delivery and catalogued frustrated material research.

At the conclusion of the tour, Simerly met with DLA Distribution San Diego leadership, providing agency updates, outlining strategic guidance and fielding questions from the DLA Distribution San Diego, California, team. Simerly highlighted the agency's focus on the evolving warfighting environment and the need for DLA to adapt to maintain warfighter support capabilities. He reinforced the strategic transformation imperatives of people, precision, posture and partnerships, noting the role of artificial intelligence in improving demand forecasting accuracy. He concluded discussions by stressing the importance of building trust and discipline within the agency.
