Bashline Demands House Democrats Call Session to Resolve Pennsylvania Budget Impasse

HARRISBURG - As two months have passed with no budget for the 2025-26 Fiscal Year, Rep. Josh Bashline (R-Clarion/Armstrong) is demanding majority House Democrats call members back in to Harrisburg to end the budget impasse immediately.
"It's time to stop the unnecessary gimmicks and gridlock from the Democrats," said Bashline. "We must do what our constituents sent us to Harrisburg for by being responsible adults and enacting a responsible fiscal plan that best serves the needs of residents and the Commonwealth. Residents, critical resources and organizations cannot afford more delays in this process. They are being held hostage because of the Democrats' political theater."
Bashline says the House Democrat proposal, a $51.47 billion package, spends just over $5.5 billion above Pennsylvania's projected revenues under current law. The Pennsylvania Senate recently passed a commonsense, level-spending budget - totaling $47.6 billion - that represented a strong, responsible start to a proper budget. However, Democrats wasted no time blocking the plan.
Bashline is calling for immediate funding to help child care facilities and more money for townships to address transportation needs, among others, without losing deserved funding to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). He also wants the Democrats to come to terms with House Republicans on a budget that focuses on growing the economy, unleashing Pennsylvania's energy industry and supporting an efficient government.
"The Democrats' proposal will raise taxes, and residents cannot afford to lose more of their hard-earned dollars," said Bashline. "Unfortunately, I do not have control over when House sessions are called. I am on standby, ready to travel to Harrisburg in the blink of an eye when I'm told to be there to reach a conclusion."
