Suspects Arrested After Series of Estate Sale Burglaries

Over the past several months, detectives with the Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) Property Crimes Unit have been investigating a series of burglaries targeting estate sales. Property was posted on a variety of estate sale auction websites, and residences were targeted for specific high value items. Detectives identified two suspects, Matthew Lantz (dob 1/25/1988) and Daniel Clinton (dob 12/16/1992) of Denver, CO.


On July 24, 2025, with the assistance of Denver Police Department and Denver SWAT, FCPS detectives served a search warrant in the 1000 block of Valentia Street in Denver and recovered property related to multiple cases.


Matthew Lantz was taken into custody and has been charged with the following:
• Class 3 Felony - Second Degree Burglary (17 Counts)
• Class 5 Felony - Second Degree Burglary (1 Count)
• Class 3 Felony - Theft Over $100,000 (1 Count)
• Class 4 Felony - Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (1 Count)
• Class 4 Felony - Criminal Mischief Over $20,000 (1 Count)
• Class 1 Misdemeanor - First Degree Criminal Trespass (3 Counts)


Daniel Clinton was taken into custody and has been charged with the following:
• Class 3 Felony - Second Degree Burglary (2 Counts)
• Class 4 Felony - Theft $20,000-$100,000 (1 Count)
• Class 4 Felony - Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft (1 Count)
• Class 2 Misdemeanor - Criminal Mischief $300 to $1000 (1 Count)


Both suspects are currently being held on a $75,000 cash/surety bond.


"These crimes were carefully planned and deliberately targeted vulnerable members of our community," said Sgt. Joe Bjornstrom, who supervises the Property Crimes Unit. "Thanks to the collaborative efforts of our detectives and the Denver Police Department, we've made significant progress in recovering stolen property and holding those responsible accountable."
