The American Bar Association Appoints Lisa R. Lifshitz to the Cybersecurity Legal Task Force

Torkin Manes is pleased to announce that our partner, Lisa R. Lifshitz, has been appointed to the Cybersecurity Legal Task Force ("Task Force") of the American Bar Association ("ABA"). The Task Force is comprised of cybersecurity leaders from the private and public sectors. Collaborating with ABA entities, industry leaders and government agencies, the Task Force provides lawyers, policymakers and the public across the country with the latest insights on cybersecurity risks, how to protect data and how to respond to a cyberattack, while focusing and coordinating the ABA's analyses and assessments of cybersecurity proposals.

Lisa has a long-standing history with the ABA that spans more than 20 years, during which time she has held various leadership positions in its Business Law Section ("BLS") and Science and Technology Section. She is currently the Secretary of the BLS and will become its Vice-Chair in September. She is also the Co-Chair of the BLS's Robotics and AI Subcommittee, Cyber and Technology Law Committee, and the immediate past Content Officer and Chair of the Content Board of the BLS. Lisa was also a member of the ABA's Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence and a past member of the ABA Standing Committee on Technology and Information Systems. She has previously served a member of the Task Force on behalf of BLS. She remains a member of the editorial board of the SciTech Lawyer publication.

As Chair of the firm's Technology Group, Lisa advises vendors and users on complex technology transactions and procurements, including artificial intelligence systems, managed and cloud computing systems, , fintech, ecommerce and software development, licensing, distribution and master services agreements. Her clients span the private and public sectors, including federal and provincial governments, and she has significant cross-border experience helping non-Canadian companies enter the Canadian market. Lisa is also Chair of the firm's Privacy & Data Management Group, where she advises Canadian and international clients on privacy and cybersecurity compliance, trans-border data transfers, inter-company privacy arrangements, breach coaching, privacy issues in corporate and technology transactions, and Canada's anti-spam legislation.
