On October 22, 2024, at around 2:46 a.m., Tampa Police responded to the 400 block of S Howard Ave for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Investigators determined that the driver of a 2013 Chevrolet HD2500 truck, a 27-year-old white male, was exiting a shopping plaza located at Howard Avenue and Horatio Street, when he struck the pedestrian, a 35-year-old white male.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the truck failed to come to a complete stop prior to entering the roadway. At the time of the collision, the pedestrian was standing near the edge of the roadway.

As a result, the pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver remained on scene.

This remains an active investigation. Any applicable charges will be determined as the investigation progresses.
