Drazan to Fundraise Alongside Trump Crony Ron DeSantis

The Florida Governor has presided over some of the worst rollouts of MAGA policies

Portland, OR - Today, the Republican Party of Oregon announced an upcoming fundraiser to be headlined by MAGA supporter Christine Drazan and right-wing extremist Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis has gained national attention for his extreme, MAGA-aligned policies. As Governor of Florida, he has used every lever of power to bring Trump's agenda to his state, including:

• Passing the infamous"Don't Say Gay" bill, which discriminates against LGBTQ+ children in public schools.
• Fast-tracking the construction of the immigrant concentration camp "Alligator Alcatraz," which was closed earlier this year after reports revealed human rights violations, including holding detainees in phone-booth sized cells.
• Championing the passage of a six-week abortion ban, one of the most restrictive in the nation.
• Participating in a self-dealing scam that diverted $10 million in taxpayer funds from a Medicaid settlement to help poor children to political action committees by funneling the money through his wife's charity.
• Approving public school curriculum that downplayed the atrocities of American slavery, arguing that enslaved people learned skills that could be of "personal benefit."
• Signed into law Florida's own version of the "SAVE" Act, as well as laws restricting Vote By Mail, making it harder for Floridians to access the ballot.

"Ron DeSantis is a national disgrace who has spent his time as governor stripping rights from Floridians, from banning books to jailing abortion providers to putting kids in cages at 'Alligator Alcatraz,' all to score points with the MAGA base," said Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried. "Christine Drazan wants to cash in on that record, and Oregon voters should believe what it says about her: she's just as extreme."

And looking at Drazan's voting record, she is perfectly aligned with DeSantis on these issues. As a legislator, she sought to bring similar right-wing policies to Oregon:

• Drazan opposed legislation to provide educational support to LGBTQ+ students who have been historically disadvantaged because of their sexuality or gender identity, and also opposed legislation that prohibited banning books based solely on whether they include perspectives of historically marginalized groups.
• Drazan celebrated Trump's ICE raids, calling protestors who opposed them "violent mobs and domestic terrorists."
• She sponsored three bills that could jail or punish abortion providers, and attempted to force a vote on a fourth.
• She funneled nearly $100,000 from her dark-money non-profit to a private consulting firm that she owns.
• Drazan opposed a resolution declaring racism a public health crisis, ignoring evidence that racism can exacerbate chronic illnesses in BIPOC communities, and voted against a resolution urging Congress to end slavery by closing a loophole in the 13th amendment.

"Christine Drazan has been desperately attempting to rebrand as a moderate ahead of this election, but the fact that she's raising money alongside one of the most extreme MAGA governors in the country shows voters who she really is," said Democratic Party of Oregon Chair Nathan Soltz. "If you want a preview of what the Drazan administration would look like, look no further than the chaos Ron DeSantis has brought to Florida. Oregon voters have repeatedly rejected far-right extremists like DeSantis and Drazan at the ballot box, and will do so again this November."
