Statement from Premier Lantz on incident involving Island EMS ambulance

Hon. Rob Lantz, Premier of Prince Edward Island, issued the following statement regarding the tragic incident involving an Island EMS ambulance in New Brunswick:

"Today, all Islanders are grieving.

The tragic loss of two Island EMS paramedics and the patient they were caring for has left our entire province in shock and mourning. On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, I extend my deepest condolences to their families, friends, colleagues, and to everyone whose lives they touched.

The two paramedics who lost their lives today dedicated themselves to caring for others. They chose a profession built on compassion, courage, and service, answering the call whenever Islanders needed them most. Every shift began with the hope of helping someone through one of the most difficult moments of their life. That commitment to others speaks to the kind of people they were, and their loss will be deeply felt by the Island EMS family, their colleagues across our healthcare system, and communities across Prince Edward Island.

We also mourn the loss of the patient who was in their care and extend our deepest sympathies to their loved ones. This is an unimaginable tragedy for every family affected and for the many first responders, healthcare professionals, and emergency personnel who responded.

Prince Edward Island is a small province, and losses like this are felt deeply. Today, we stand together in grief.

On behalf of all Islanders, I offer our deepest condolences. We will continue to keep these families, their friends, colleagues, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy in our thoughts in the difficult days ahead."
