San Bruno Mountain Grazing Pilot Solicitation Notice Now Posted

July 16, 2025

After several years of planning, San Mateo County Parks is pleased to announce the opportunity for cattle operators to graze on the mountain as part of the Conservation Grazing Pilot Program. Cattle reintroduction on the mountain will support the long-term goals of conserving and enhancing grassland and critical habitat for the federally endangered Mission blue and Callippe silverspot butterfly species, as described in the park's Habitat Conservation Plan (SBMHCP). After assessing the results of this 3-year pilot grazing operation on the Northeast Ridge (76 acres) and Southeast Slopes (115 acres), more widespread and long-term implementation of grazing at San Bruno Mountain will be considered.

If you are a cattle operator and interested in this grazing opportunity, please read Solicitation document linked below and follow the instructions therein to register for a pre-bid site visit on Oct 6th or Oct 14th.
