The City of Richardson celebrated an important moment in the construction of its new City Hall as crews placed the final structural beam at the highest point of the building. The topping-off ceremony brought together City Council members, City staff, project partners and community leaders to mark the achievement and recognize the work that has brought the project to this stage. Before the beam was lifted into place, attendees were invited to sign it, commemorating the milestone in Richardson's civic history.
A topping-off ceremony traditionally signals the completion of a building's structural framework, a point when months of planning, engineering and on-site coordination begin to take shape in a visible way. The new City Hall, northeast of the original location near US 75 and Arapaho Road, is part of the City's larger Municipal Campus redevelopment and is funded through the 2021 and 2023 Bond Programs, along with insurance proceeds from the 2022 fire.
City leaders recognized the many partners who have played a role in the project's progress, including McCownGordon Construction, AECOM and Architexas, as well as the construction crews, trade partners, inspectors and City staff whose day-to-day work has kept the project moving safely and on schedule.
Once complete, the approximately 98,500-square-foot building will provide a modern home for municipal operations and create a more accessible, service-focused experience for residents. The facility will include a centralized customer service area, flexible workspaces and improved public gathering areas that tie into the broader Municipal Campus plan.
Work will continue through 2026, with the building expected to open in early 2027. Residents can follow construction progress, including live camera views and project updates, at https://www.cor.net/NewCityHall.
As the project moves into its next phases, the City looks forward to delivering a civic facility that supports Richardson's future and strengthens the connection between the community and its local government.
