Letters to Fishery Management Councils: Priorities for Executive Order 14276

Read the letters sent by NOAA Fisheries to regional councils and management divisions detailing priorities to reduce burdens on domestic fishing and increase seafood production.

In response to the Executive Order on Restoring American Seafood Competitiveness, the Department of Commerce, through NOAA Fisheries, launched a bold, coordinated effort to revitalize the U.S. seafood sector. NOAA is committed to addressing the recent decline in fisheries landings and revenue, boosting sustainable aquaculture, reducing the seafood trade deficit, and strengthening supply chain resilience.

After considering input from councils, the fishing industry, and the public, the agency has prioritized a number of actions for each council region, many of which re-enforce council priorities. Identifying and implementing these actions are critical steps in our efforts to fulfill the President's vision of making the United States the world's dominant seafood leader.

These priorities were shared with each council in letters sent from Assistant Administrator Eugenio Piñeiro Soler in July 2026:
