President Gitanas Nausėda addressed the people of Ukraine on the fourth anniversary of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
The President noted that four years ago, darkness sought to engulf Ukraine, as Russia believed it could erase the Ukrainian nation from history with missiles and terror.
"But instead, we witnessed something extraordinary-a nation that refused to kneel, people who chose freedom over fear, dignity over obedience, light over darkness," President Gitanas Nausėda said in his address.
"Your courage inspires millions. Your resolve strengthens Europe. Your sacrifice reminds the world that freedom is never given-it must be defended. Dear Ukrainians, you are not alone. Lithuania stands with you in solidarity and friendship, firmly believing in your victory. A victory that will shape the future of Europe," Gitanas Nausėda emphasized.
In 2026, Lithuania will allocate €223 million to Ukraine's defense needs, continuing its commitment to provide military assistance amounting to 0.25% of Lithuania's GDP annually.
The latest package of Lithuanian military assistance to Ukraine includes air defense missiles; contributions to the PURL initiative, as well as to the Czech initiative to supply artillery shells and anti-tank mines; contributions to Patriot air defense systems; radar systems for Ukraine; and funding for the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU) to procure equipment in line with Ukraine's needs.
Lithuania will also continue to support the training and rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers, as well as Ukraine's demining program.
Furthermore, Lithuania will continue to provide urgent and coordinated financial and technical assistance to Ukraine in the humanitarian field. During the coldest period of this winter, Lithuania significantly increased its humanitarian aid to Ukraine's energy sector. Ukraine received 90 generators, including 48 high-capacity generators primarily intended for critical infrastructure in Kyiv.
Lithuania was the first country to transfer the entire Vilnius combined heat and power plant to Ukraine. Large and extremely heavy equipment was delivered ahead of the winter season. In addition, a shipment of U.S. liquefied natural gas will arrive at the Klaipėda terminal on 24 February and will subsequently be transferred to Ukraine.
