Airbnb.org offers free emergency housing to Ohio flood survivors

As clean up efforts begin in communities devastated by historic flooding in Ohio, Airbnb.org is providing free, temporary housing to displaced residents. Airbnb.org - a nonprofit founded by Airbnb to provide emergency housing in times of crisis - is working with United Way of Greater Cincinnati to identify those most in need of safe shelter. Stays are free for guests and fully funded by Airbnb.org and the generosity of donors.

How it works

Severe rainfall in recent weeks has overwhelmed riverfront communities from Cincinnati and Covington to New Richmond, with Campbell and Hamilton Counties declaring states of emergency. To support Ohioans whose homes have been damaged or destroyed, Airbnb.org is partnering with United Way of Greater Cincinnati. United Way will help identify residents most in need of emergency housing and refer them to Airbnb.org for free stays, which often allow residents to remain close to their support networks, workplaces, and schools. Impacted residents can request temporary housing support or other services by calling United Way of Greater Cincinnati at 211.

Airbnb.org uses the Airbnb platform to connect people who need a place to stay with Airbnb hosts willing to share theirs. 100 percent of all donations go directly to providing emergency housing in times of crisis. Since its founding in 2020, Airbnb.org has provided 1.6 million nights of free, temporary housing to more than 250,000 people.

Most recently, Airbnb.org offered free, temporary housing to people displaced by wildfires in Los Angeles, Jasper, Canada, Hurricanes Milton and Helene in Florida, floods in Brazil, and the earthquake in Japan's Noto Peninsula.

Those interested in offering discounted stays to people impacted by the floods in Ohio can visit Airbnb.org for more information on how to sign up to host. Airbnb waives all service fees for Airbnb.org hosts and guests. Hosts who sign up to share their home through Airbnb.org receive damage protection and liability insurance with AirCover for each booking.

Donations to Airbnb.org support those impacted by the Ohio floods and other crises. 100 percent of donations go toward providing emergency housing.
