Trump’s Budget: Shortchange Americans to Pay for His Unpopular War of Choice With Iran Arrow

As Donald Trump and JD Vance continue their unpopular war of choice with Iran, Trump admitted that funding for everyday Americans is on the chopping block so he can pay for his war.

Trump admitted, "We can't take care of daycare. We're a big country. We have fifty states, we have all these other people, we're fighting wars. We can't take care of day care."

"It's not possible for us to take care of daycare. Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things, they can do it on a state basis."

This morning, Trump released his FY 2027 budget, proposing an additional $445 billion a year in military spending which could instead pay for:

  • School lunch for 30 million kids for their entire K-12 education
  • A year of health care for 55.8 million Americans
  • A year of child care for 32 million kids.

REMINDER: JD Vance's plan to lower families' child care costs was for "grandma and grandpa" to "help out a little bit more."

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

"Donald Trump promised to stop the endless wars, reduce the national debt, and lower costs when he got into office. Now, Trump is dead set on slashing crucial funding for child care, health care, job training, and other programs that millions of everyday Americans rely on to pay for his deadly and costly war. Trump and Republicans have already driven up prices and hollowed out the job market while securing massive tax cuts for their wealthy donors - and now everyday Americans are footing the bill for a war that they don't support."

Trump's war has already claimed the lives of 13 American service members and injured nearly 350 service members, while skyrocketing prices and costing jobs back home. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas is up to $4.09 nationwide. Wednesday night, during his address to the nation, Trump offered no firm timeline for the end of his war.

Americans do not want this war. Two-thirds of Americans believe the U.S. should end the war quickly - including 40% of Republicans - and 66% said they disapprove of Trump's war. An overwhelming majority of Americans oppose sending ground troops into Iran, and 63% said the number of casualties has been unacceptable.
