Nipper invited the guest of honor, Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Thomas Hayes, along with the oldest Marine, David Demmy and youngest Marine, Alex Spencer, to join Henwood for the traditional cutting of the cake.

"The cake cutting ceremony is a tradition steeped in symbolism. The passing of the cake from the oldest to youngest is a recognition of the wisdom and experience passed down through generations. There is also the camaraderie and bonds that unite all Marines during the celebration of our birthday," Hayes said. "As we share the cake, let us acknowledge the shared commitment we all have toward supporting our nation's defense."

"Throughout the course of our illustrious history, one constant has been critical, and that is the need for supplies, equipment and sustainment," Hayes said. "Your dedication ensures Marines have what they need, when they need it, and where they need it to accomplish any mission. From class nine to MREs, DLA's impact is felt on every battlefield and every operating environment."

In closing, Hayes emphasized the significance of this birthday and the importance of interoperability.

"Today we celebrate 250 years of honor, courage and commitment. We honor the Marines who have served and sacrificed. We also recognize our vital partnership shared with DLA in support of national defense."
