WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters re-elected Governor Tina Kotek in Oregon.
"Oregon voters just re-elected a governor who has fought for gun safety her entire career," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Governor Kotek has stood with Oregonians through their grief after the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School, and she can count on Everytown to be alongside her every step of the way in her second term."
"Just weeks ago, three children and a teacher were killed at Silver Rail Elementary School, and Governor Kotek told Oregonians that no parent should have to have that kind of day," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "That grief is still fresh in communities across this state, and it calls for leaders who will act. Oregonians kept one in office, and our movement will stand with her and with the Silver Rail community as it heals and takes steps to help prevent the next tragedy."
"As Oregon parents, we sent our kids to school this fall with heavier hearts than we ever imagined, and we needed a governor who would stand with us," said Lisa Bosotina, a volunteer with the Oregon chapter of Moms Demand Action. "Governor Kotek has been there for Oregon families in our hardest moments, and we're so grateful she'll keep leading our state. We'll be in Salem with her, working to make sure every Oregon child can learn without fear."
