Lewisville Police Department earns State Re-Accreditation

The Lewisville Police Department has earned re-accreditation through the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation's Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, the state's highest recognition for law enforcement agencies.

On Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Stanford, representing the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation, presented the accreditation certificate to the Lewisville City Council and the Lewisville Police Department during the City Council meeting.

The Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary process that recognizes agencies demonstrating compliance with more than 170 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices. Developed specifically for Texas agencies, the standards promote professional excellence, operational effectiveness, accountability, and the protection of individual rights. Of the more than 2,800 law enforcement agencies in Texas, fewer than 10 percent have achieved accredited status, making the designation a significant accomplishment.

The Lewisville Police Department first earned accredited status in 2014 and has successfully maintained its accreditation through each subsequent review cycle, a track record that reflects sustained commitment rather than a one-time achievement. Captain Matt Collins led the department's re-accreditation effort, coordinating the extensive review process and ensuring compliance with more than 170 accreditation standards. Achieving and maintaining those standards requires years of planning, documentation, training, and organizational commitment.

A key component of the department's success was the modernization of its policy and accreditation management systems. Over the past several years, the department has transitioned from paper-based policies and memorandums to a technology-driven system that improves consistency, accountability, and transparency. Employees now have immediate access to current policies and procedures, creating a culture of continuous compliance instead of a "we'll get to it later" approach.

During the City Council presentation, Chief Brook Rollins accepted the accreditation on behalf of the department and emphasized that the recognition belongs to the people who serve the Lewisville community every day.

"This accreditation is a reflection of our people," Rollins said. "The men and women of the Lewisville Police Department come to work every day committed to making our community safer through professionalism, integrity, and service. This recognition doesn't belong to me or the leadership team. It belongs to every employee of the Lewisville Police Department and to the community we are honored to serve."

Chief Rollins also recognized Captain Collins for his leadership throughout the re-accreditation process.

"Captain Collins invested an extraordinary amount of time and effort into this project," Rollins said. "He guided our department through more than 170 accreditation standards while fundamentally modernizing how we manage policies and accreditation. His leadership created a system that will benefit our department for years to come."

The department also extends its appreciation to the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation, Accreditation Committee Chairman Steve Stanford, Accreditation Director Kevin Lunsford, and the program assessors for their guidance and support throughout the accreditation process.
