EU-Singapore Think Tank Dialogue

The EU-Singapore Think Tank Dialogue on security and defence cooperation explored shared strategic interests, complementary strengths & practical pathways for collaboration.

EU Delegation to Singapore

Jointly organised by the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), and the EU Delegation on 16-17 March, the event was successful in bringing the scholarly communities from Europe and Singapore closer together. Additional European experts participated from Institut Français des Relations Internationales (Ifri), the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung (HBS), and the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

A closed-door roundtable on 16 March explored the themes 'EU-Singapore Security Cooperation in a Fragmented Global Order' and 'Building Digital Trust: Cyber, Data Governance, and Dual-Use Technology'.

The public event 'The EU & Singapore: Partnering for Resilience in the Indo-Pacific' on 17 March presented insights from the closed-door discussions and offered a stage for European and Singaporean perspectives on current affairs. The conversation focused on how the EU and Singapore can work together to reinforce their own resilience and that of ASEAN.

The Think Tank Dialogue produced a number of ideas for new or expanded cooperation between the EU and Singapore, from protecting critical (underwater) infrastructure and engaging with the rise of new technologies, to sustainable connectivity and energy.

Following this successful first edition of the revived EU-Singapore Think Tank Dialogue series, the Delegation looks forward to organising similar Dialogues to explore other fields of mutual interest in the future.
