WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) led a letter with members of the South Carolina delegation to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expressing strong support for the 2027 Military World Games, which will be hosted across South Carolina and North Carolina. The lawmakers emphasized the importance of the event in honoring America's service members while showcasing the Palmetto State's deep ties to the U.S. military.
In the letter, Sens. Scott and Graham as well as Representatives Sheri Biggs (R-SC-03) and Ralph Norman (R-SC-05) highlighted South Carolina's long-standing role in supporting the armed forces and its unique concentration of military installations, making it a natural location to host events for the first Military World Games ever held in the United States.
"Service members and their families are critically important to South Carolina from the Upstate to the Lowcountry," the lawmakers wrote. "We are proud to welcome the Military World Games as an opportunity to celebrate their inspiring individual accomplishments and collective contributions to our great state."
South Carolina is home to several major military installations, including Joint Base Charleston, Fort Jackson, Shaw Air Force Base, McEntire Joint National Guard Base, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, representing nearly every branch of the U.S. military.
