Update on Route K and Old Plank Road Roundabout Construction

(COLUMBIA, MO)- The City of Columbia Public Works department and contractor Sam Gaines Construction have experienced weather-related delays during phase three of the roundabout project at West Route K and West Old Plank Road.

A previous update Nov. 4 indicated that phase three was scheduled to be completed Dec. 5, weather permitting. Due to rain in November and snow in early December, phase three is now expected to be completed by Friday, Dec. 26, weather permitting.

Phase three includes work on the southeast corner of the roundabout. During this phase, Route K remains closed to through traffic at the construction site. Eastbound traffic on Route K continues to follow the detour north on South Sinclair Road and east on West Southampton Drive from the roundabout at Route K and South Sinclair Road. This detour will remain in place until phase three is complete.

Once phase three work is finished, Route K will reopen to through traffic using the completed portion of the roundabout.

Phase four, the final stage of construction, is expected to begin Monday, Dec. 29. During phase four, West Old Plank Road will be closed at the construction site. This phase is expected to continue through the end of January, weather permitting. Additional details for phase four, including detour information, will be provided in a future release.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution in the work zone, follow posted detours and remain alert for workers and equipment. Keeping speeds down and staying attentive helps protect both crews and other travelers.
