DC Health Partners with Brandywine Valley SPCA to Enhance Animal Services in the District

Washington, DC - Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Health are excited to announce a new partnership with Brandywine Valley SPCA to expand pet services. As part of a strategic shift to enhance animal welfare services across the region, the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) will conclude its partnership with DC Health. In its place as of January 1, 2025, DC Health is proud to announce a new collaboration with Brandywine Valley SPCA, aimed at expanding and improving pet care and support for residents.

Comprehensive Care and Services

Under this new partnership, BVSPCA will oversee animal control, care, medical services, field operations, and adoptions within the district. Operations will be centralized at the city's animal shelter located at 1201 New York Ave NE, which opened for adoptions and community services on January 2, 2025. This facility will also serve as the hub for animal control services.

For assistance, the public can now reach DC Animal Control and BVSPCA by calling 202-888-PETS (7387).

Services Provided by BVSPCA:

  • Field services, complaint investigations, and shelter operations
  • Animal transportation and adoption programs
  • Lost and found resources to reunite pets with their families
  • Veterinary care, spay/neuter services, and dangerous dog investigations

What This Means for the Community

New York Avenue Location at 1201 New York Avenue NE: Key services will remain available to ensure continuity of care.

DC Village at 4 DC Village Lane SW: Set to open soon, a newly established site designed to provide expanded pet care resources, including wellness services and adoption opportunities.

"By teaming up with Brandywine Valley SPCA, we are ensuring that every pet and their owner have access to high-quality, compassionate care."
