Appointments at Mexico's U.S. Consulates Increase by 21% in April
  • Mexico's consulates in the U.S. provide ongoing protection services, legal advice, and information campaigns for Mexican nationals, following the instructions of Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente
  • Documentation rose by 179% compared to April 2024, with most demand for civil registry services.
  • The consulates have provided 6,800 legal consultations and handled over 43,000 protection and assistance cases so far this year, with immigration-related advice accounting for 75% of these cases

Mexico's consulates in the U.S. remains committed to protecting the rights of Mexican nationals through comprehensive legal advisory programs, efficient documentation services, and an accessible open-door strategy.

In coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and following Foreign Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente's guidance, Mexico's consulates have created effective community outreach strategies. These approaches help to identify potential protection needs and high-risk situations, and provide practical advice to minimize unnecessary interactions with authorities.

The Foreign Ministry has strengthened its efforts to digitize, simplify, and expand the consular services offered in the United States, primarily focusing on increasing available appointments and document issuance.

These initiatives resulted in a 21% increase in appointments this April compared to the same period in 2024. Civil registry services and document processing in general saw a 179% increase during this timeframe.

These improvements ensure that Mexican communities have better access to essential services through their local consulates.

Between January 1 and April 25 this year, Mexico's consulates provided 6,800 legal consultations and addressed more than 43,000 protection and assistance cases, with 75% involving immigration-related legal advice.

To better serve the Mexican communities in the U.S. and enhance preventive education, the consular network regularly offers programs such as "Know and Your Rights" workshops and "Open-Door" events. These initiatives help Mexicans to understand their rights and learn about available consular services. In 2025 alone, our consulates have organized over 7,000 preventive protection events, including more than 1,500 open-door activities.

Complementing these efforts, the Center for Information and Assistance for Mexicans (CIAM) provides round-the-clock telephone support from trained professionals who offer compassionate guidance on consular protection matters. Since January, CIAM has assisted more than 69,000 nationals-a 65% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of Mexicans in the United States. These programs aim to deliver both timely assistance and high-quality, accessible services to Mexican communities abroad.
