Mayor Muriel Bowser and America250 to Announce Official Establishment of DC250

(Washington, DC) - Mayor Muriel Bowser and America250 Chair Rosie Rios to Hold Joint Press Conference and Elementary School Visit to Share DC's Plans for the 250th Milestone, and How Residents and Visitors Can Get Involved

WHAT:
In 2026, the United States will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Joining efforts with America250, the national, nonpartisan organization that has been charged by Congress to orchestrate a nationwide commemoration and celebration for the Semiquincentennial, Mayor Muriel Bowser will announce that Washington, DC, has established its official DC250 Commission. DC250 will play a key role in planning, coordinating and supporting activities for the 250th milestone in the nation's capital.

Rosie Rios, Chair of America250, will provide remarks about America250's plans and how it will collaborate with the DC250 Commission to highlight the District's rich culture and storied history as part of this landmark moment in our nation's history. Both leaders will share what residents and visitors need to know, and how they can participate and get involved in the celebration of a lifetime.

Media are invited to attend and capture remarks, with opportunities for interviews and deskside conversations.

Following remarks, the organizations will hold a joint press conference at Powell Elementary School, focused on ways to inspire the next generation of Americans. America250's programming has a large focus on engaging younger generations through hands-on experiences where they can truly immerse themselves in U.S. history and culture and build optimism for our collective future.
