Washington Building Congress mourns the passing of Allen Templeton Slaughter, a respected industry veteran and former WBC Board of Directors member, who died on May 28, 2026, at his home in Aiken, South Carolina, surrounded by his family. He was 71.
A native of Washington, D.C. who grew up in Kensington, Maryland, Allen was a Master Electrician by trade and a proud graduate of IBEW Local 26's Inside Wireman "A" apprenticeship program, earning the distinction of valedictorian in 1982. He went on to build a nearly 30-year career at WBC member company Dynalectric Company, retiring in 2018 as Senior Vice President of the Construction Department.
Allen served on the WBC Board of Directors from 2011 to 2016, where he was known as a steady, principled voice for the industry he loved. Those who worked alongside him will remember his rare mechanical intuition, his integrity, and the respect he commanded throughout the Washington area construction community.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Clare; daughters Sarah Kiselycznyk and Peggy Slaughter; grandsons Erik and Lukas; and brothers Blair B. Slaughter Jr. and Edwin Slaughter.
A celebration of life will be held in both South Carolina and Maryland; details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the National Brain Tumor Society at braintumor.org.
He will be fondly remembered. View the full obituary here.
