Amo Votes NO on Funding Department of Homeland Security

WASHINGTON, DC - TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement on voting against funding the U.S. Department of Homeland Security:

"Once again, Trump has led the United States into a moral abyss. Trump and his Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, have turned ICE into an out-of-control paramilitary force of masked men terrorizing our communities.

Rather than receive due process, immigrants and citizens alike are subject to warrantless search and detention, forced to prove their citizenship to move freely in our cities and towns, and targeted with violence if they don't comply or exercise their First Amendment rights. I cannot in good conscience vote to fund the Department of Homeland Security and ICE's unchecked power.

I support our TSA agents providing security at our airports, Coast Guard members protecting our waters, and our federal emergency response enterprise, but we must meet this moment with moral clarity. We cannot and must not empower Trump's police state to trample on the rights of the residents of our nation."

Background

In addition to voting against H.R. 7147, The Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2026, Congressman Amo joined more than 100 House Democrats calling for the impeachment of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem.
