Successful seminar on radio communication for Puntland Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources

EUCAP Somalia's Puntland Field Office successfully concluded a seminar on radio communication for eight participants from the Puntland Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, responding to a request from Minister of Fisheries.

The seminar addressed maritime radio communication using Very High Frequency (VHF) radios and followed the syllabus of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the level of Short-Range Communication (SRC) certificate. During the training our Mission staff covered topics as Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) numbers, frequencies used and requirements needed for the four different sea areas A1-A4.

Each section was presented with an overview of relevant national and international legal frameworks, and operational practices. The seminar also enhanced the participants' understanding of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and radio communication at sea.
