Mbrace Energy: Bringing Emissions-Free Blowdown Solutions to Canada’s Natural Gas Wells

CALGARY, AB (October 29, 2026): Across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, a number of oil and gas wells need an innovative solution to prevent liquid loading and to compete against flowline pressures. Mbrace Energy, supported with a grant funding of $400,000 and access to a live testing host site through NGIF Accelerator's Methane Reduction Demonstration Program (MRDP), is solving this need with their Emissions-Free Blowdown Solution. The technology aims to reduce methane emissions and increase efficiency in natural gas production while aligning with industry environmental goals.

Mbrace Energy is developing the Pressure Gap Platform, a portable, digitally enabled wellsite production system designed to address the persistent challenge of liquid loading in oil and gas wells. When liquids accumulate in a wellbore, production declines, and gas that would otherwise stay in the pipeline is vented during blowdowns. The result is lost product, lost revenue, and avoidable methane emissions. By integrating advanced multiphase compression, a natural gas drive power package, and an intelligent control and data layer, Mbrace's technology keeps wells unloaded and operating efficiently.

The project, supported by the Government of Alberta and NGIF Accelerator's industry members Birchcliff Energy and Tourmaline, will take Mbrace's Pressure Gap Platform from pilot validation to full commercial readiness, helping producers sustain output from challenged wells while eliminating the venting and flaring that come with reduced production.

Currently, Mbrace has completed initial field validation at a pilot site near Rimbey, Alberta, with support from Tourmaline, generating the operational and emissions data that inform the current system design. A 14-month project is now underway to deploy a commercial-grade system at a host producer's site, verify its greenhouse gas reductions through an accredited third party, and connect its AI control platform to producers' SCADA and production accounting systems. The project will also produce a playbook for scaling across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.

"Alberta's proven approach to methane reductions is simple: focus on practical solutions, support industry adoption and deliver results. Innovative, made-in-Alberta technologies are lowering costs, creating jobs and reducing emissions today while keeping industry competitive and strengthening Alberta's energy sector for the future." Grant Hunter, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas.

"Mbrace is a strong example of the practical, field-ready innovation our Methane Reduction Demonstration Program exists to accelerate," said John Adams, President and CEO of NGIF Accelerator. "Through our programs, NGIF Accelerator helps de-risk emerging technologies through field trials and pilot projects, accelerating industry validation, customer adoption, and commercialization."

Joshua Anhalt, CEO and co-founder of Mbrace Energy, states, "At Mbrace Energy, we're tackling a critical emissions challenge while enhancing the economics of existing oil and gas assets. Our mobile multiphase compression system eliminates and prevents methane venting during well blowdowns and liquid unloading - a widespread, persistent source of emissions across Western Canada - while helping producers extend the productive life of their assets. The MRDP funding through the Government of Alberta allows us to move from pilot to field-validated deployment with top-tier WCSB operators, accelerating our path to commercial scale. NGIF Accelerator's industry-led model - pairing non-dilutive capital with direct operator feedback - is exactly the support early-stage Canadian cleantech needs to bridge proven concept and broad market adoption."

Industry Grants' Participants and Project Partners

About Industry Grants program
The Industry Grantsprogram is an industry-led effort that offers non-dilutive grants to fund early-stage startups for technology development and field demonstration. The program specifically de-risks pre-commercial technology solutions that have the potential to increase the environmental performance of the natural gas sector. Each project in the program will progress through technology readiness levels through controlled pilot testing and field trials to advance commercialization.

About NGIF Accelerator
NGIF Accelerator operates all of NGIF's technology and innovation programs. The NGIF Accelerator mandate is to de-risk and accelerate technology development by supporting startups through their pilot projects, field trials, and industry validation. It coordinates with federal and provincial governments to co-fund projects to advance market commercialization. NGIF Accelerator currently operates the Industry Grants program and administers the Methane Innovation Collaborative.

About Mbrace Energy
Mbrace Energy is a Calgary-based wellsite production technology company focused on production enhancement and methane emissions reduction in the upstream oil and gas sector. The company delivers The Pressure Gap Platform-an engineered, digitally enabled wellsite production system that combines purpose-built field equipment, proprietary process integration, and an artificial intelligence and machine learning data layer to keep producing wells flowing and to eliminate the venting and flaring that come with curtailed and backed-out production. Mbrace works directly with Canadian oil and gas producers to deploy its technology in the field on wells prone to liquid loading or unable to compete against flowline pressure and in other challenging, often off-grid production settings.
