The Sparks City Attorney's Office has secured multiple misdemeanor theft convictions resulting in substantial sentences that include active jail time, reinforcing that theft offenses in the City of Sparks, consistent with the City Attorney's Office "Back Our Businesses" initiative will be met with serious and immediate consequences.
In recent cases where criminal prosecutors for the Sparks City Attorney's Office specifically sought incarceration at sentencing, a Sparks Municipal Court judge imposed the following sentences after convictions:
On January 20, 2026, Keith Adkins was sentenced to 90 active days in the Washoe County Jail consecutive to another case after being found guilty of Petit Larceny for a January 14, 2026, theft at Scheels.
On January 20, 2026, Michael David Christensen was sentenced to 180 days of Washoe County Jail suspended for a term of 2 years on the condition that he serve 45 active days in the Washoe County Jail, have no contact with Scheels, and obey all laws. He was sentenced after being found guilty of Petit Larceny stemming from a November 12, 2025, theft at Scheels.
On January 20, 2026, Jimmy Killam was sentenced to 180 days Washoe County Jail suspended for 2 years on the condition that he serve 30 active days in the Washoe County Jail, that he have no contact with Summit Racing, pays restitution in the amount of $199.00, and obeys all laws. He was convicted of Petit Larceny for a November 2, 2025, theft at Summit Racing Equipment.
On January 20, 2026, Raymond King was sentenced to 180 days Washoe County Jail suspended for 2 years on the following conditions: complete 45 active days in the Washoe County Jail, no contact with Scheels and obey all laws.
On January 21, 2026, Raul Cardenas was sentenced to 20 days active days in the Washoe County Jail after being found guilty of Petit Larceny stemming from an October 24, 2025, theft at Kohl's.
"The message should be clear in the City of Sparks: theft will not be tolerated," said City Attorney Wes Duncan. "Those who choose to steal should expect real consequences and active jail time. Our office will continue to pursue meaningful sentences that back our local businesses and protect the community."
